How does bike share work?

• Most trips are only around 15-20 minutes and 1-3 miles
• Bikes can be returned to any of the 40 self-serve bike share stations, including the original check out location 
• Bikes can be returned at a regular bike rack (inside the system boundaries) for a $1 fee
• Bikes can also be returned in any area that contains a "geo-fence" (such as special events including Ducks football games)
• The rental transaction is fully automated and can be done at any of the bike share stations
• Bikes can be reserved in advance and put on hold if you need to run a quick errand

How can I rent a bike?

Bike share users can choose a membership plan that best suits their needs including one-time, monthly, and annual memberships. There are also group pass options for large employers. Members have access to bikes through self-service kiosk locations throughout the community. To get riding download the app or visit www.PeaceHealthRides.com to sign up for a membership account.

Where can I ride?

The system area includes Downtown Eugene, the University of Oregon campus, and portions of the Whiteaker neighborhood. There is also a satellite station with bikes available for use at PeaceHealth RiverBend in Springfield. You can ride the bikes outside the system, but the bikes must always be returned inside the system. Check the PeaceHealth Rides app or website for details on system boundaries. 

What forms of payment are accepted?

Most systems require a credit or debit card to become a member and check out a bike. This helps make riders more accountable for all ridership costs and prevents theft. 

What if a bike needs repairs?

Bikes are regularly cleaned and inspected for maintenance needs. Users can report any bike issues by pressing the "REPAIR" button on the bike and the fleet team will take care of the rest. Bike features like wide pedals, step through frame and fenders mean you don’t need special gear or clothes and can ride in any weather.

Are theft and vandalism concerns?

PeaceHealth Rides utilizes proprietary parts, including bolts, that resist theft.  The bikes also feature real-time GPS so that bikes can be tracked and found if determined to be missing or stolen. Users must use a credit or debit card or their membership number to check out a bike, which creates user accountability. In a study, all existing systems reported less than 1% of bicycles vandalized or stolen.

Who operates bike share?

Cascadia Mobility operates the Eugene bike share system. An advisory board that includes regional partners (City of Eugene, Lane Transit District and University of Oregon) meets quarterly to discuss operations and performance of the bike share system.

How is bike share funded?

The PeaceHealth Rides Eugene bike share system is sponsored by PeaceHealth. The system was originally funded by a $909,066 grant from the Oregon Transportation Commission. An additional $193,000 was transferred from the University of Oregon (Associated Students of the University of Oregon) to the city to ensure provision of bike share stations on the University of Oregon campus. Current operations are primarily funded through a combination of user fees, PeaceHealth sponsorship, and support from partner agencies.
