Caution - Pothole Repairs Ahead

Eugene has its share of potholes, with City crews typically patching at least 5,000 potholes each year. Fortunately, Eugene also has an active street repair service program. Visit the left-hand menu on this page to learn more about potholes and how they are fixed.

Gravel Street and Alley Potholes

The City of Eugene does not maintain gravel streets or alleys and  has not done so since 1989. Gravel streets are considered to provide only a temporary travel surface until a permanent improvement is made to City standards with construction costs assessed to the abutting property owners. Maintenance of this temporary surface is the responsibility of abutting property owners. Any work performed by property owners on this road surface requires a Temporary Service Permit (TSP).  If you are interested in obtaining a TSP please call 541-682-4800 and ask for the Surface Technical department.

Report a Pothole

It’s easy to report a pothole to the Eugene Public Works Maintenance Division, by using the online pothole service request. The form will ask for some brief information about the pothole, including its location. There is also a place for you to provide your contact information. You can also call Public Works Maintenance at 541-682-4800 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

If you’d like to follow up with us after making a pothole request, just send us an email with the word "pothole" in the subject line.

Repairing of Potholes

Please remember that Eugene Public Works only repairs potholes on public streets in the city of Eugene. We will make a field inspection of every reported pothole within two business days. In many cases we will immediately fill the pothole; however, in some cases we may choose to delay repair based on weather, material availability, or repair technique determined to be best for the situation.
